What we have to offer you The WLWR offers temporary shelter to women and children who have suffered mental and physical cruelty, running a 24-hour service. The main aim of the refuge is to give support, advice, help, and information to women, including social welfare, legal, and housing problems. As always we encourage women to determine their own futures, whether this involves returning home or starting a new life elsewhere. Our support not only focuses on assisting women, but also their families, by the way of a playgroup and fully equipped creche. Our Floating Support Workers are available to give support to the women, long after they leave the Refuge. Comments from the women "The staff are always there for you, giving excellent support. There is always someone to talk to." "I wanted to say thanks for everything you did for me, in just 8 short weeks! You had faith in me and showed me kindness and love at a time when I thought the entire world was against me. There was someone there for me 24 hours a day, and I appreciate you all listening and treating me as a proper human. Sharing your own personal experiences gave me such strength at times." "When we arrived at the refuge we were all desperate and didn't know what to expect, but we needn't have worried. We were all made to feel very welcome, you were there to listen and lend a helping hand whenever we were down and now you have given us the strength to face the world again." "I wouldn't be here except for the help of the refuge, and the counselling services provided." |
